Brooklyn Law School student receives fellowship to work at New York State Supreme Court Commercial Division
Janae Cummings, Brooklyn Law School (BLS) Class of 2019, will spend a fully funded summer clerking in the chambers of New York State Supreme Court, Commercial Division under Justice O. Peter Sherwood as the recipient of the of the New York Bar Foundation’s Commercial and Federal Litigation Section Diversity Fellowship. Cummings is the sole recipient of the fellowship, the purpose of which is to enrich and diversify the pipeline of up-and-coming commercial litigators in New York.
Cummings was on hand at Lincoln Center on April 24, along with family members and BLS Dean Nicholas Allard, to receive the fellowship. Also at the awards program and networking reception was Hon. Jeh C. Johnson, former U.S. secretary of Homeland Security, who was honored with the Hon. George Bundy Smith Pioneer Award.
“We are enormously proud of Janae Cummings for this singular recognition and opportunity,” Allard said. “She is emblematic of the quality, leadership potential and commitment to service of our diverse student body to our increasingly global community. It is especially meaningful to us to share the pride of her family, including her father Jerome Cummings, who has been a member of the Brooklyn Law School Library staff since Janae was a very small girl.”
