Rev. Michel Faulkner, who recently dropped out of the GOP mayoral pool in favor of running for comptroller has been endorsed by the Republican Party chairmen of all five counties. He will challenge Democratic incumbent Scott Stringer, who has held the job since 2014.

The five Republican chairs endorsing Faulkner are Ted Ghorra (Brooklyn), Bob Turner (Queens), Ronald Castorina Jr. (Staten Island), Mike Rendino (Bronx) and Adele Malpass (Manhattan).

Faulkner is a newly minted Brooklynite and a community leader who is currently the pastor of the New Horizon Church in New York City.  Among his many accomplishments, Faulkner is a former professional football player who was a defensive lineman for the Jets during the 1981-82 NFL season.

For more than 30 years, Faulkner has been a pastor in his community. His ministry has included being an advocate for the poor and homeless, and his community and civic work.

He was assistant pastor and director of the Lamb’s Center for the Lamb’s Church in Times Square and pastor for Youth and Community Outreach at Calvary Baptist Church in Manhattan. He co-chaired the NYC Board of Education’s HIV/AIDS task force and was commissioner for the City Charter Revision Commission.

Faulkner also served as vice president for Community Government Relations at King’s College and was appointed by former Mayor Rudy Giuliani to the Task Force on Police Community Relations.

In 2005, Faulkner founded the Institute for Leadership (IFL), a nonprofit organization focusing on the development of leaders and leadership programs.

In a joint statement, all five county GOP chairs said, “Michel Faulkner represents the best of the Republican Party: Integrity, consistency, discipline, community activism and, of course, a more accountable, efficient and fiscally responsible government. He will be a competent and effective comptroller for the city of New York.”
