THE LEDE: Hello and happy Wednesday! On this breezy morning, we bring you the latest in the city’s deadlock with Airbnb, and the Eagle takes a field trip to the infamously polluted Newtown Creek. Got a secret that’s weighing you down? Put it to rest in Green-Wood Cemetery. Also, Gov. Cuomo may get a little tipsy at the Taste New York Inaugural Craft Beer Challenge this month, and a Mets fan gives his late friend and fellow fan a very untraditional farewell. Plus, we bring you puns galore….enjoy!

IMPRINT: Not quite clickbait (more like readbait) on the cover of The Guardian g2.

The Rundown

~AIRBNB IS HERE TO STAY, SO BROOKLYN POL TRIES TO MAKE NICE: Brooklyn’s own Assemblyman Joseph Lentol and Airbnb put their heads together to craft a bill that aims to appease the city, Airbnb and participating hosts by creating a registry for hosts to make their rentals legal…and pay taxes. (via WNYC)

~“THE WIND BLEW AND THE SHIT FLEW”: These were the first words the Brooklyn Eagle heard before climbing aboard the Riverkeeper patrol boat to explore Newtown Creek, the heavily polluted 3.5-mile estuary that runs along the edges of Greenpoint and East Williamsburg. Newtown Creek is notorious for its Combined Sewage Overflow…here’s a primer on how city and state environmental agencies plan to deal. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~THE COST OF DECREASED INTERNATIONAL TOURISM IN NYC: The number of international tourists in NYC is expected to drop by about 2 percent this year, thanks in part to Trump’s immigration policies and a strong dollar. Combined with an anticipated $120 million loss in tax dollars, the city is scrambling to make sure Times Square stays packed to its gritty brim. NY Magchats with tourists from France and Turkey, among other countries, who are “not frightened of missiles falling in Times Square. Yet.” (via NY Mag)

~WHAT’S THIS ABOUT COMMUNIST ALLEGATIONS AGAINST A PARK SLOPE PRINCIPAL?: The Department of Education is investigatingpopular Park Slope Collegiate Principal Jill Bloomberg in light of “communist activities taking place at the school” related to “actively recruiting students to participate in a political party.” Bloomberg denies the allegations and filed a lawsuit against the DoE. Her supporters lined the walls of the courtroom, and her attorney claims the allegations are having a “chilling effect” on First Amendment rights. (via Chalkbeat)

~WARNING: PUNS AHEAD: You don’t have to be an affishionado to participate in voting for the Coney Island Aquarium’s new boardwalk mural contest — you can vote just for the halibut. Anyone who wants to mullet over and give three murals their seal of approval can float over and hook their favorites at www.nyaquarium.com/2017-mural-competition. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~BOTTOMS UP, GOV. CUOMO: The Taste New York Inaugural Craft Beer Challenge kicks off this month, with none other than Gov. Andrew Cuomoserving as a judge. New York state is now home to 321 craft breweries, up from just 50 in 2011. That’s partially thanks to beer-related bills that grant tax breaks to smaller breweries, passed under Gov. Cuomo…still, one craft brewer worries that we may be nearing “the beginning of the end of the American craft beer revolution.” (via the WSJ and the NYT)

~BURY YOUR SECRETS IN GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY (LITERALLY): An installation by French conceptual artist and professional secret keeper Sophie Calle finds a permanent home in Green-Wood Cemetery. Visitors can write their secrets on a piece of paper and slip them into a hollowed out grave created for the project, where the secrets will rest forever. (via the NYT)

~NOT JUST A FAIR WEATHER FAN: Tom McDonald gives his late childhood friend and fellow Mets fan a rather untraditional farewell…by carrying his ashes to baseball parks across the country and flushing them down the ballpark toilets little by little. (via the NYT)
