Mayor de Blasio got behind the wheel of one of the city’s new ferries on Sunday and cruised with great enthusiasm to the Rockaways in a ceremonial run.

NYC Ferry’s first two routes, the Rockaway and East River lines, went into service Monday morning. A third route, which will connect Bay Ridge and Sunset Park to Red Hook, Brooklyn Bridge Park and Wall Street will launch on June 1.

The first day of service saw more than 6,400 riders, according to NYC Ferry. That includes 1,828 on the new Rockaway Route.
