The Brooklyn Republican Party under the leadership of Executive Committee Chairman Ted Ghorra and Vice Chairman Brian Doherty has voted to endorse Assemblymember Nicole Malliotakis for mayor. The Staten Island GOP had previously endorsed Malliotakis.

Ghorra said, “The Brooklyn Republican Party has endorsed Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis in her race for mayor. Assemblywoman Malliotakis will be an exceptional candidate for our Republican Party and a great mayor for New York City.”

“Her immigrant background, her Greek and Cuban heritage, her experience as an elected official and her reputation as a tireless campaigner will make her a candidate to be reckoned with,” added Ghorra. “In the weeks and months ahead, the Brooklyn Republican Party will stand with her as we work together to take back our city and make Bill de Blasio a one-term mayor.”

Malliotakis (R-C-Bay Ridge-Staten Island) officially announced her mayoral bid in a press conference at City Hall in early May. Since then, the GOP mayoral field has narrowed down to Malliotakis and businessman Paul Massey. Another candidate, retired detective and Fox News personality Bo Dietl, is also running for mayor. The Republican Party has declined to allow Dietl to run on their line.

Malliotakis has also received an endorsement from former Deputy Mayor and MTA Chair/CEO Joe Lhota, a former mayoral candidate himself in 2013. Lhota described Malliotakis as “the only real Republican in the race and the candidate who truly understands the problems of our city and the solutions to fix them.”

Lhota served in a variety of roles during the eight-year administration of Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Lhota said, “Nicole is a common-sense, no nonsense member of the Legislature who is a proven tax cutter, a strong supporter of our neighborhoods, our schools and the NYPD. She has been a fearless critic of Bill de Blasio’s reckless tax-and-spend mentality, his anti-charter school agenda and his bull-headed support of the destruction of city records.”

“Assemblywoman Malliotakis’ reputation as a tireless campaigner, along with her tenacity as a first-generation American who understands the values that immigrants bring to our city, her Greek and Cuban heritage and her knowledge of the issues will serve her well as she campaigns throughout the five boroughs of our city,” added Lhota.

Malliotakis, who lives on Staten Island, received her B.A. from Seton Hall University and earned an M.B.A. from Wagner College. She was elected to the state Assembly in 2010 and has been re-elected three times in her district.

She had previously received the endorsement the Brooklyn Conservative Party, Staten Island Borough President James Oddo, Assemblymember Ron Castorina (R-Staten Island) and Gristedes supermarket mogul, talk radio host and former mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis.

And now with the endorsement of the Brooklyn GOP and Lhota, Malliotakis has a solid support system within the borough as the party continues to unite behind her.
