Other attendees included Robert Birkhead, a representative from U.S. Rep. Dan Donovan’s office; Brian Chin, president of Northfield Bank; Rhea McCone of Harbour Abstract Agency Limited; and Walter Ochoa of Right at Home health care service.

Howe introduced NYC Ferry Community Development Supervisor Elana Ehrenberg, and thanked NYC Ferry for being one of the sponsors of this year’s Summer Stroll.

Ehrenberg presented a brief history of NYC Ferry, New York’s first citywide ferry system in more than 100 years. She also offered an update on the ferry’s progress.

“Since our initial launch on June 1,” Ehrenberg said, “we are averaging about 15,000 passengers per week. On our launch weekend of June 3 and 4, we had 7,000 riders, and this past weekend, June 24 and 25, we had over 9,000 people take a trip onboard NYC Ferry’s South Brooklyn route.”

Summer Stroll Chairwoman attorney Ilene Sacco offered an update about the upcoming Stroll explaining the rules and regulations all merchants must adhere to along the avenue. She also discussed the planned entertainment for the event including a marching band and a possible scavenger hunt.

The Summer Stroll is presented by the Merchants of Third along with state Sen. Marty Golden and Councilmember Vincent Gentile. As in years past, the avenue will be transformed into a summer evening piazza filled with food, musicians, performers, art exhibits and local merchants.
