ON THIS DAY IN 1933, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article on the front page titled “Hit by O’Brien’s Car; Recovers.”

The article focused on a 10-year-old boy who was hit by then-Mayor John O’Brien’s limousine.

“The mayor was on his way to witness the Schmeling-Baer fight at Yankee Stadium when Theodore darted out from the curb immediately in front of his big limousine. A fender struck his head, knocking him to the street … John carried the scared, bleeding lad to Lennox Hill hospital nearby for treatment,” the Eagle reported.
