~WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?: A four-legged version of the Pontiff was just one of the splendidly costumed dogs at the Fourth Annual Doggy Fashion Show at Freddy’s Bar in Park Slope. Hundreds cheered on their favorite canines as they strutted their stuff. Formalwear including tuxedos, gowns and pearls, while more casual pups dressed imaginatively — there was a skate board rider, a cowdog, a shark and Little Red Riding Hood. ~THE HIGH LINE OF BROOKLYN: The Kosciuszko Bridge has been the talk of the town lately. Willis Elkins of Newtown Creek Alliance recently explained how the overpass would be demolished and how the removal process would impact the waterway below. We’ve even seen one group of people vow to fight for the old bridge with “wolves and swords.” One writer, however, has a slightly different idea. He wants to convert the span intoBrooklyn’s own High Line, which would serve as an observation platform and “a stubby Eiffel Tower.” (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Facebook and NYT)

~CAN’T LIVE WITH THEM, CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT THEM: It’s no secret that bicycles are an integral part of life in Brooklyn. They help people get to work and they let people explore the borough, but they have also proven to be highly political. City Council candidate John Quaglione recently called for the involvement of community boards in choosing Citi Bike rack locations, which can take up valuable parking space. Meanwhile, data analyst Andrew Lax falsely reported that bike lanes boost property sales, which was found to be inaccurate and difficult to prove. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle and DNAinfo)

~BROOKLYN’S OWN JULIUS CAESAR: This Julius Caesar has tattoos and a hipster beard. The Gallery Players in Park Slope are presenting a new rendition of Shakespeare’s blood-soaked tragedy. Though there’s no Donald Trump doppelganger playing the title role like there was in the Public Theater’s controversial Shakespeare in the Park production, the Park Slopeversion is powerful stuff, a whirlwind of passion and politics. ~CHINESE FEUD TURNS BLOODY IN BROOKLYN: A family grudge survived 20 years and thousands of miles of ocean and land before finally breaking out into a brawl with sticks, fists and axes. Though no one was badly injured in the fight, Wu Long Chen murdered an opposing family member years later in Sunset Park. Chen’s victim stumbled into a nearby Popeyes with three bullets inside of him before dying. Chen is set to be sentenced today atBrooklyn Supreme Court and faces up to life in prison. EAGLE SPORTS: The Cosmos entered Saturday’s match againstEdmonton FC desperately needing three points. A victory for New York would cement a top-three finish and provide momentum going into the Fall Season.
