THE LEDE: Happy Thursday, Brooklyn! We wish a fond farewell to the Kosciuszko BridgePrince William and Duchess Kate are hiring. And it’s been a crazy few day in the animal kingdom. Rabbits are surfing on sheep, scientists are arousing turtles, and three deadly cobras were found in potato chip containers. Plus, whale sharks apparently bring good luck to fishermen in Indonesia. And, head on over to Staff Picks to see what our country would look like now if Hillary Clinton had won the election.

~A BRIDGE ON A BARGE: The old Kosciuszko Bridge was slowly lowered onto barges all day Tuesday and shipped down Newtown Creek Wednesdayafter a two-week delay from its publically anticipated July 11 demolition date. The removal of the 125-foot main span of the bridge left a large hole in the air next to its vibrant replacement bridge for passersby over Newtown Creek to see. The lowering process took about 16 to 18 hours as part of the $873 million investment to replace the bridge. The main span was being shipped to a recycling facility in New Jersey, according to a statement by theNewtown Creek Alliance(via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~MISSING BATH BEACH GRANDMOTHER FOUND DEAD: In a heartbreaking ending to a sad situation, a missing Bath Beach woman whose disappearance led to a massive search effort by members of her church wasfound dead Tuesday, eight days after she mysteriously vanished. The body of a woman fitting Mary Joyce Bonsignore’s description was discovered on the rooftop of an apartment building on 19th Avenue near Cropsey Avenue, not far from her home. Bonsignore, 88, suffered from dementia. The city medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how Bonsignore died, but her death does not appear to be suspicious. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~HOTEL VIEWS AND CONDO CLOSINGS: Come have a drink with us as wetour 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge’s rooftop. With its jaw-dropping vistas of the World Trade Center, the Lower Manhattan skyline, the Brooklyn Bridge, theDUMBO Clock Tower and the red neon “Watchtower” sign, you might never leave. Plus, the hotel’s gorgeous rooftop pool is opening to the public on Saturday. Meanwhile, next door at Pierhouse, condos are continuing to close. New York venture-capital investor Pedro Torres-Mackie recently purchased a $5,909,261 apartment at the new condo and hotel complex inBrooklyn Bridge Park. As we all remember, the project stirred legal controversy over the issue of whether the building partly blocks the protected view plane between the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and the Brooklyn Bridge. The highest-priced Pierhouse condo purchase to close in recent weeks was made by Boom Shaka Lacka LLC, and the apartment price was $6,051,816. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle and Time Out New York)

~WAIT, BROOKLYN RENTS MIGHT ACTUALLY BE DECLINING: Say it’s not so! The average price for a one-bedroom in Brooklyn has decreased by one percent to $2,850, according to real estate website Zumper. It’s no surprise that neighborhoods like WilliamsburgDUMBO and Brooklyn Heights are still above the average rent, but areas like Sunset Park and Kensington are among those most affordable, with Brownsville at the lowest average at $1,490 a month. Availability of new development units forcing renters to compete could be attributing to the decrease, or maybe landlords are finally easing up on strict rent increase policies. (via Curbed)

~TRANSPORTATION LAWS BROUGHT TO THE STATE: Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that New York State will study the use of a “textalyzer,” a device that can catch texting drivers red-handed. It’s months away from being ready, but it would allow police to see if drivers were using their cellphones before a serious crash. And in Brooklyn, lawmakers want to bring the turnstile jumping issue to the state level. State Senator Jesse Hamilton and Assemblywoman Tremaine Wright want to officially decriminalize the actacross New York, enforcing a $100 fine for offenders. “We want people to pay their fares. We just want it to be handled in a humane manner,” Wright said.(via AP via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle and DNAinfo)

EAGLE SPORTS: It took just over a year, but Sean Marks finally got his man. The Brooklyn general manager continued his summer of wheeling, dealing and rebuilding the league-worst Nets on Tuesday afternoon, cementing a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers for the services of sharp-shooting forwardAllen Crabbe, whom he failed to land last July as a restricted free agent. Crabbe will receive a team-high $19.3 million for the upcoming campaign. He averaged 10.7 points per contest while hitting an eye-popping 44 percent of his 3-point attempts, good for second-best in the entire league among qualifying players. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
