A 31-year-old man from Crown Heights pleaded guilty to gun possession on Monday after he was arrested and sent to jail for getting caught with a pistol during a block party.

“I was at a barbecue and the cops came up,” Shawn Daniels said in Brooklyn federal court. “Before they even grabbed me, I threw the gun in the grass.”

Daniels addressed Judge Carol Amon with a soft voice after he was nearly 40 minutes late to his pleading because of train traffic.

He voluntarily walked with his head down into the back room of the courthouse to be sent to jail after he pleaded guilty.

On April 28, Daniels was with about 20 people drinking at the barbecue near 998 Union St. in Crown Heights when six plainclothes NYPD officers drove up, according to court documents.

The crowd scattered and people ran up the nearby driveway to a house. Daniels ended up trapped outside the front door, banging on it to get inside before the cops grabbed him.

“I didn’t get to the door in time,” Daniels said in court.

One cop in the precinct heard Daniels say on the phone, “They got me with a gun,” according to court filings.

Daniels has a 2006 attempted armed robbery felony and faces a guideline sentence of about two years on the gun possession charge when he is sentenced on Nov. 20.

His lawyer, Michael Padden, did not wish to comment.
