On Thursday, Republican mayoral candidate Nicole Malliotakis and District 47 City Council candidate Ray Denaro released statements extending their support for one another in this November’s upcoming election.

“Not only as a candidate for city council but as a New Yorker who loves my city, I am proud to endorse Nicole Malliotakis for mayor of New York,” said Denaro. “Nicole embodies what New York is all about — hard working, hard-nosed and committed to getting the best results for her constituents. In November, we can finally get rid of the corruption and mismanagement of Bill de Blasio and elect Nicole Malliotakis, who will bring us the positive change we so very need.”

Malliotakis echoed her support of Denaro: “I am proud to accept the endorsement of City Council candidate Ray Denaro and I am equally proud to endorse him in his bid for election.  Ray will be a common-sense councilman who will work with me as mayor to lower taxes, improve education, protect our quality of life and keep our streets safe.”

Malliotakis and Denaro are both facing incumbent Democrats in their bids for public office. Denaro, the only Republican in his district’s City Council race, is facing off against Mark Treyger. District 47 includes Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Coney Island and Sea Gate.

“I know that we share the same sentiment in repairing our broken transit system, lowering taxes and protecting our NYPD. These are the real issues New Yorkers care about,” Denaro told the Brooklyn Eagle.

De Blasio will be running for his second mayoral term. While Malliotakis is the only Republican in the race, de Blasio must first compete in the Sept. 12 primary against former City Councilmember Sal Albanese, activist Robert Gangi, real estate attorney Richard Bashner, network producer Bill Murawski and entrepreneur Mike Tolkin.

“As the Kings County chairman, I am thrilled to have endorsed both Nicole and Ray and our other Brooklyn GOP candidates in this election cycle,” Ted Ghorra told the Eagle. “Nicole and Ray are representative of the energy and common-sense personalities who will work hard and well alongside our experienced and highly effective elected officials, including Sen. Marty Golden and U.S. Rep. Dan Donovan.”

Ghorra said he sees Malliotakis and Denaro as emblematic of the current state of the Republican Party.

“Our candidates — from mayoral through to comptroller, public advocate, borough president and our numerous City Council candidates — collectively represent the diversity that is our city, borough and the Brooklyn GOP,” he said. “I look forward to the continued party growth and success that we will achieve this year and in years to come as we work with Nicole, Ray and our many other candidates and elected officials.”
