Three local Brooklyn politicians, Monday added to the list of more than 20 elected officials that have endorsed acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez to stay in the borough’s DA seat.

Assemblymember Walter Mosley and Councilmembers Laurie Cumbo and Robert Cornegy, representing a total of five Brooklyn neighborhoods, threw their support to Gonzalez in hopes he will continue the late DA Ken Thompson’s legacy.

“The families of Brooklyn are well-represented and safer because of Eric Gonzalez,” Cumbo said in a statement. “His commitment to providing second chances for our young people and restoring faith in our criminal justice system is why I fully support him for Brooklyn District Attorney.”

Gonzalez has raised about $1.5 million so far and collected nearly 60 endorsements from varying groups and figures to place him in the lead out of the remaining candidates.

Each of the elected officials supported Gonzalez on specific aspects of his acting term as DA.

Mosely got behind the Conviction Review Unit that was started by Thompson and has continued to exonerate 23 wrongful convictions, some of which left people in prison for decades.

“DA Gonzalez has continued these innovative approaches to improve the relationship between law enforcement and the community,” Mosley said in the statement.

Cornegy supported the removal of over a half-million arrest warrants last week by four of the city’s district attorneys, including Gonzalez.

“This is another measure that builds trust between the community and law enforcement,” Cornegy said. “That is something that is desperately needed not only in Brooklyn, but nationwide.”

The three representatives collectively cover nearly 400,000 residents across Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights.

“I am honored to receive the support of these progressive community leaders,” Gonzalez said. “We will work to keep Brooklyn safe while also ensuring equal justice for everyone in Kings County.”

The Democratic primary will be held on Sept. 12.
