INDIA — Refugees Not to Be Deported: A Rohingya refugee takes a nap as a child lies next to him outside a temporary shelter in New Delhi on Wednesday. A day after the U.N. chief voiced concern about Indian plans to potentially deport tens of thousands of Muslim Rohingya refugees, a government official said Wednesday that authorities are only working to identify those who fled persecution in neighboring Myanmar, not expel them. An estimated 40,000 Rohingya Muslims have taken refuge in various parts of India, though fewer than 15,000 are registered with the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

MEMPHIS — Young Fan Impersonates the King: Nathan Pittorf shows off his best Elvis Presley impersonation during a candlelight vigil for Presley at Graceland, his home, on Tuesday. Fans from around the world were at Graceland for the 40th anniversary of the rock n’ roll icon’s death. Presley died Aug. 16, 1977.

GREECE — Planes Attempt to Fight Fire: A firefighting plane drops its load during a forest fire near the village of Metohi on Monday. A large wildfire is threatening homes as it sweeps through pine forests, uncontained for a second day due to high winds.

CHINA — Rainbow Spread Across Sky: People wearing plastic rain ponchos stand along a sidewalk as a rainbow forms over the central business district of Beijing on Wednesday. Although the capital is in a semi-dry climate, it receives much of its annual precipitation during the summer months.

SOUTH KOREA — Tensions Rise: A visitor walks by a wire fence decorated with ribbons carrying messages to wish for the reunification of the two Koreas at the Imjingak Pavilion in Paju on Wednesday. China has urged the U.S. and North Korea to “hit the brakes” on threatening words and work toward a peaceful resolution of their tense standoff created by Pyongyang’s recent missile tests and threats to fire them toward Guam. The dispute has also raised fears in South Korea, where a conservative political party on Wednesday called for the U.S. to bring back tactical nuclear weapons to the Korean Peninsula.

Despite efficiency increases and lessening the need for manual laborers, companies require workers who can program, oversee, operate, and maintain the automation. A report by Deloitte Consulting and the American Manufacturing Institute estimates two million such jobs will need to be filled over the next decade. 

NEW YORK – Naturalization: Gleidson Hoffman, originally from Brazil, becomes emotional during his naturalization ceremony, Tuesday in New York. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services offered the ceremony for 30 people from 19 countries.
