City Council Candidate Liam McCabe opens new campaign headquarters

On Tuesday, City Council candidate Liam McCabe hosted a grand opening celebration for his new campaign headquarters at 6903 15th Avenue in Dyker Heights. The small storefront was filled with elected officials, campaign supporters, friends and family members.

McCabe happily greeted all who stopped by and thanked them for their continued support. He posed for photos with anyone who asked and warmly welcomed former Brooklyn Republican state Sen. David Storobin and U.S. Rep. Dan Donovan (R-C-Southwest Brooklyn-Staten Island), whom McCabe worked alongside for many years.

In fact, Donovan praised McCabe for his help in getting the former Staten Island District Attorney elected to Congress and said that he was “here tonight to return the favor and get Liam elected to the city council.”

McCabe was joined by his fiancé Christine Sisto and his son Rory who both assisted with the campaign. Also attending the opening were Bob Cassara, president and founder of the Brooklyn Housing Preservation Alliance, Kerri McCarthy, McCabe’s cousin who is running for 46th district leader and Avery Pereira, also running for district leader.

McCabe’s focus on illegal home conversions, sanitation pickup from city streets and stopping individuals from collecting cans and bottles on private property were highlighted.

McCarthy thanked Donovan, McCabe, state Sen. Marty Golden and Brooklyn Republican Party Chairman Ted Ghorra for backing her for district leader in the Sept. 12 primary.

Storobin was introduced as the first Russian-American elected to the state senate. He referred to McCabe as a good friend and said that he has known him for over eight years. He said that McCabe stood by him when “a lot of other people wouldn’t.” He called McCabe the smartest person he knew, who always offered him sound advice.

He singled out McCabe’s proposal for private corporations to sponsor subway train stations as an example of a “simple, but brilliant idea that he made happen.” He also cited McCabe’s personally collecting garbage that was piling up on Bay Ridge streets and depositing it at the Mayor’s office at Gracie Mansion, as an example of McCabe’s hands on approach.

Donovan, who won 53 percent of the Brooklyn vote with McCabe running his campaign, said “the one reason I’m here is to support my friend Liam McCabe.”

Donovan said that he was the first Republican who won the Brooklyn part of his district in over 10 years and cited McCabe as the major reason for his victory. Donovan added that “this man’s never asked anyone for anything, but I’m asking you to help him,” adding “My friend Liam has represented this community so well and for so long without being in public office, just imagine what he can do when he’s elected.”
