First South Asian-American magistrate judge appointed to Brooklyn’s federal court
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY) appointed its first South Asian-American magistrate judge — Hon. Sanket Bulsara — Chief Judge Dora Irizarry announced this week. He is the first South Asian-American to serve as a judge within the Second Circuit.
Just before his appointment to the bench in EDNY, Bulsara served briefly as the acting general counsel of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Before that, he was deputy general counsel for Appellate Litigation, Adjudication and Enforcement within the SEC.
“We are thrilled to welcome Judge Bulsara into the Eastern District family,” Irizarry said. “Judge Bulsara was chosen by the Board of Judges from among five highly qualified and stellar candidates recommended by the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Committee composed of members of the bar and citizens of the Eastern District.
