Matrix Auto Collision at 1796 East 49th St. in Flatlands borough hosted its annual Matrix Youth Adventure “Give Back to the Community” block party on Saturday. Elected officials, community leaders and families from Flatlands, Canarsie and Mill Basin came together to enjoy a day of fun as awards of excellence were presented to national and local businesses.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the community event was filled with food, fun and games for children. State Assemblymember Jaime Williams, who represents the 59th District (D-Canarsie-Flatlands-Mill Basin), presented awards to businesses and civic groups.

It was a special day for the youngest honoree, Henniya Tucker, a cancer survivor. Other community leaders attending the event included Robert Rodney and Sheran Brunson of Matrix Youth Adventure and Paul Curiale, executive director of Millennium Development.

Williams presented Matrix Youth Adventure with a proclamation and helped hand out the awards. Gifts and prizes were also given during the event.

“It was a pleasure to be a part of Matrix Youth Adventure’s 10th anniversary ‘Give Back to the Community,’” said Williams.  “As an elected official, it is always great to see local businesses and members of the community come together to enjoy a day of fun, games, food and backpack giveaways.”

When asked what gift she would most like to have, Tucker said that she wanted a car. The beaming little girl was happily surprised to receive her very own car from the Matrix organization.

“This year was even more special to see the smile on the youngest honoree Henniya Tucker’s face as she was honored by Robert Rodney and Sheran Brunson of Matrix Youth Adventure,” said Williams.

Awards were presented to NYPD 63rd Precinct, FDNY Engine 309/Ladder 159, Boar’s Head meats and the Gotham Electrical Supply Co.

“With these initiatives, Matrix has once again come together to bridge the gap between small businesses and community by giving back,” added Williams.
