Three state legislators endorse Carlos Menchaca for city council
Incumbent is Fighting to Hold on to His Seat in the 38th District
Following last month’s endorsement from U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler, Democratic District 38 City Councilmember Carlos Menchaca (D-Sunset Park-Red Hook) has received the endorsement of three state legislators: state Sen. Velmanette Montgomery (Fort Greene, Sunset Park, Gowanus and Park Slope), Brooklyn Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon (Brooklyn Heights) and New York City Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou (Lower East Side, Chinatown, South Street Seaport and Battery Park City).
All three are colleagues in the state Legislature of one of his main opponents, Assemblymember Felix Ortiz, and all three cited Menchaca’s commitment to progressive values in their endorsement. This announcement comes on the heels of the support of the Transport Workers Union Local 100 (TWU) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 9A.
“Carlos has been a strong advocate for working families and seniors. As Trump threatens our core values, Carlos has been at the forefront of key battles to take on wrong-headed, racist and misogynist policies and rhetoric,” said Simon. “I am ready to continue championing our Democratic values together, and strongly endorse him for re-election.”
