Hearne will be the first Bishop Kearney teacher to work in the school’s new state-of-the-art broadcast lab, where she will instruct students on television and video journalism. In addition, she will teach two other subjects, British literature and literature of conscience.

Hearne’s resume is impressive, according to Bishop Kearney High School officials. In her most recent position, she served as a producer at WNBC-TV. Over the years, she has worked as a reporter, writer and producer for various television stations. She got her start at ABC, working in the Olympic Division of ABC Sports.

The shows Hearne has produced have taken viewers to countries like Iraq and have offered comprehensive coverage of such events as the 1993 World Trade Center  bombing as well as the events following the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001.

Hearne has earned Associated Press and United Press International awards for her reporting.  She has also received an award from NBC for leadership and has been nominated for two dozen Emmys during the course of her career.

She is a graduate of Long Island University and holds a master’s degree from the Missouri School of Journalism, where she specialized in broadcast news.
