THE LEDE: Happy Tuesday, Brooklyn! While Mayor de Blasio’s BQX streetcar goes missing, he proposes a fix for the Summer of Hell. Brooklyn’s restaurants are the dirtiest in the city, and the famed Woodstock Festival is coming to the borough. Plus, Donald Trump once tried to start a baseball league, Taylor Swift goes to court and Barack Obama weighs in on the Kenyan election. Finally, an 8-year-old climbs Kilimanjaro and smartphones might not be so great after all.

IMPRINT: Don’t tell Floyd, but the world’s toughest Irishman was recently featured on the cover of ESPN the Magazine’s Fighting Issue.

~A FIX FOR THE SUMMER OF HELL?: On Monday, Mayor de Blasiodescribed his plan to fund urgently-needed repairs to New York City’s bus and subway system and half-priced MetroCards for the working poor with a new, half percentage tax on millionaires. Claiming that the state, which runs theMTA, has siphoned off a half billion dollars from the MTA’s budget, de Blasio said the system needed “sustainable revenue” and “fairness.” “This is not just a subway crisis, this is a human crisis. And New Yorkers are experiencing this every day,” de Blasio said at a press conference at Brooklyn Borough Hall. The proposed tax, which would be levied on 32,000 city millionaires, could be used to leverage billions of dollars’ worth of bonds for capital improvements as well as funding half price MetroCards for 800,000 low-income city residents.(via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~BROOKLYN RESTAURANTS IN VIOLATION: Out of all five boroughs, a new study found that Brooklyn had the dirtiest restaurants. Brooklyn averaged 4.17 violations per restaurant last year, according to a report byconsumerprotect.com. The borough’s rival, Queens came in as the cleanest with 3.99 violations per restaurant. “Thank God I cook home,” Michael fromDUMBO told 1010 WINS. But other Brooklynites are taking a different attitude, and standing proud with their favorite restaurants. “They should move or don’t even come,” another man told 1010 WINS. (via CBS New York)

~WOODSTOCK COMES TO BROOKLYN: If you were around in 1969, you know full well the cultural phenomenon of Woodstock. And if you were too young to attend or born after the historic concert, this is your chance to be part of the “peace, love and freedom” generation. The Brooklyn Mirage, a new outdoor music venue in East Williamsburg, will present “2 More Days of 1969” on Aug. 18-19. The two-day event will celebrate the 48th anniversary of Woodstock and will feature an all-star lineup of original acts. The original Woodstock Festival took place on Max Yasgur’s farm in Mount Bethel, New York and attracted more than 400,000 people who crowded the highways making the pilgrimage to share in three days of music, freedom and camaraderie. Some of the most popular performers of the time agreed to participate, including SantanaCreedence Clearwater RevivalThe Who, the Grateful DeadJanis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix(via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~CANNONBALL ROLLS IN THE HEIGHTS: A weathered cannonball likely from the American Revolution was found outside a home in Brooklyn Heightslast week. The dated ammunition is the size of a softball and was originally found while someone was digging a trench in the backyard of a house on Middagh Street. Construction workers later spotted the projectile on a table at a job site. Historian Ron Schweiger says it’s probably from either the British or Continental Army during the Battle of Brooklyn, but there’s no way to know for sure. “There’s really no way of knowing exactly where it came from or how it got there, but I’m sure it does date back to the Revolutionary War,” Schweiger said. The ball is currently being stored in the Middagh Street home.(via Brooklyn Paper)

EAGLE SPORTS: The New York Cosmos entered Saturday’s match against the San Francisco Deltas looking like a team with something to prove. After beating the Spring Season Champion Miami FC one week earlier, the Cosmos brought that momentum with them into Kezar Stadium, maintaining possession, creating chances and scoring early. But a pair of mistakes at the end of the first half proved to be the difference between the two teams as New York eventually lost 2-1. “We had control of the match in its early stages. However, two isolated plays put us in a difficult position going into the break,” said Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese. “We tried to recover on the second half, but the game turned physical and unfortunately we ran out of time to come back.” (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
