MOROCCO — Troupes Gather for Festival: In this Aug. 17 photo, horse riders fire their gunpowder filled rifles as they take part in Tabourida, a traditional horsemanship show also known as Fantasia, in Mansouria. Thousands gathered recently to attend one of the oldest festivals in Morocco. Nineteen horse troupes came from different parts of the country to celebrate a three-day event that blends courage, skill and tradition.

MYANMAR — Violence Against Minorities Continues: A Rohingya ethnic minority from Myanmar carries a child in a sack and walks through rice fields after crossing over to the Bangladesh side of the border near Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf area on Friday. Myanmar’s military says almost 400 people have died in recent violence in Rakhine triggered by attacks on security forces by insurgents from the Rohingya. Advocates for the Rohingya, an oppressed Muslim minority in the predominantly Buddhist country, say hundreds of Rohingya civilians have been killed by security forces. Thousands have fled into neighboring Bangladesh.

Mugabe made her first public statement since been accused of assaulting a young model in in neighboring South Africa, but she steered clear of the incident in her comments.

BOSNIA — People Pray: A Muslim boy offers Eid al-Adha prayers at the sport center in Sarajevo on Friday. Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, to mark the end of the hajj pilgrimage by slaughtering sheep, goats, cows and camels to commemorate Prophet Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice his son Ismail on God’s command.

KENYA — Election is Nullified: Supporters of opposition leader Raila Odinga celebrate in Uhuru Park after hearing the verdict in Nairobi on Friday. Kenya’s Supreme Court nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s election win last month and called for new elections within 60 days, shocking a country that had been braced for further protests by opposition supporters.

MEXICO – Sinkhole: A sinkhole covers an intersection in downtown Mexico City, Thursday. An enormous sinkhole about 30 feet (10 meters) in diameter opened on the street, caused by an accumulation of water, according to civil protection.

BANGLADESH – Capsized Boats: Two among three boats that capsized while being used by fleeing Rohingya is seen on the Bay of Bengal coast, after being recovered by Bangladeshi villagers at Shah Porir Deep, in Teknak, Bangladesh, Thursday. Three boats carrying ethnic Rohingya fleeing violence in Myanmar have capsized in Bangladesh and 26 bodies of women and children have been recovered, officials said Thursday. Last week, a group of ethnic minority Rohingya insurgents attacked at least two dozen police posts in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, triggering fighting with security forces that left more than 100 people dead and forced at least 18,000 Rohingya to flee into neighboring Bangladesh.
