The annual literary blow-out is just getting underway. The first author panels convene at 10 a.m.
Throughout the day, tens of thousands of book lovers will attend author panels and readings in Brooklyn Borough Hall, the plaza outside it and nearby venues in Downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights. There are 14 stages in all.
There are also tents outside Brooklyn Borough Hall where festival-goers can shop for books from more than 200 independent booksellers and publishers.
This is the largest free literary event in New York City.
If you are headed to this book lovers’ bonanza and haven’t decided which events to attend, there’s an hour-by-hour list on the festival’s website: www.brooklynbookfestival.org/events
The festival runs until 6 p.m. Check our website throughout the day for additional reporting on the literary lights who are shining today in Brooklyn.

New York City’s most populous borough, Brooklyn, is home to nearly 2.6 million residents. If Brooklyn were an independent city it would be the fourth largest city in the United States. While Brooklyn has become the epitome of ‘cool and hip’ in recent years, for those that were born here, raised families here and improved communities over the years, Brooklyn has never been ‘uncool’.
