~BRIT FINISHES 3,000-MILE RUN ACROSS U.S. ON BKLYN BRIDGE: For the past four months, while mere mortals went about their everyday lives, a British Army veteran was running across the entire United States. On Friday, after an astounding 3,000-mile trek from San Francisco to New York — alone and with no support — Paul Wheeler ran into Brooklyn on Friday, crossing the Brooklyn Bridge at roughly 11:30 a.m. while pushing his camping gear, food and water in a stroller named “Wheelson.” His monumental task finally over, Wheeler — sporting a full beard and looking remarkably fit — received a “Well done” from the British acting consul general and applause from a smattering of supporters waving UK flags. When the New York skyline came into view for the very first time, “I got a bit teary, a bit emotional,” he said. “Yeah, it was a time and a scene that I’ll never forget.” (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
~CITY EVICTIONS MAPPED OUT BY BROOKLYN STARTUP: An interactive map, brightly-lit with red and yellow dots, now shows all the known evictions across the city. In Brooklyn, Ocean Parkway and Ocean Avenue are visibly outlined with lights on the map, while Crown Heights and Bushwick clock in significant amounts of eviction markers as well. The map was created by Brooklyn tech startup JustFix.nyc, a free app for New York renters to check out housing issues. The nonprofit found 450,000 evictions filed in New York between 2013 and 2015, resulting in 25,000 to 30,000 actual evictions each year. (via Technical.ly Brooklyn)

The beer house doesn’t have a tap room, but will be opening up its courtyard to welcome visitors with food, music and beer on September 30. The opening comes with a new beer that can be bought on a brand new app. Beer drinkers will be able to buy limited small batch beers directly from the brewery through the app. Although there won’t be beer on site to purchase at the opening festivities, samples and growler fills will wet down the event. ~DON’T SMOKE AT ST. FRANCIS COLLEGE!: Cigarette smokers can’t light up at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights because of the school’s 100 percent smoke-free policy on campus. And the school is getting help going smokeless. SFC, located at 180 Remsen St., is one of five colleges and universities in New York state receiving grants from the CVS Health Foundation to go smokeless. In addition to SFC, the schools that were awarded grants are St. John’s University, the State University of New York at Albany, Nazareth College of Rochester and the State University of New York at Potsdam. CVS Health Foundation, in partnership with the American Cancer Society and the organization Truth Initiative, is offering a total of $1.2 million in grants to 126 colleges and universities across the country go 100 percent tobacco-free. The grants are part of aggressive efforts by the three organizations to deliver the first tobacco-free generation. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
