MEXICO — Mother and Son Narrowly Escape Building Collapse: Florencia Cortes, 37, right, sleeps next to her 1-1/2-year-old son Jonatan at the Francisco Kino school, which was turned into a temporary shelter for residents evacuated from the large apartment complex in Tlalpan on Monday. Cortes was pulled from the rubble of her apartment building along with her son. In order to get her him out, she had to swing him toward the building’s plumber, who happened to be outside. He caught ahold of the boy by his foot.

MAINE — City Searches for the Perfect Tree: Fog drifts through a Christmas tree farm near Starks Mountain on Wednesday in Fryeburg. Christmas might be in a little less than three months, but the search is on for the perfect 45- to 60-foot tall tree to display outdoors in Portland. The Fryeburg tree farm caters to households with much lower height restrictions.

FRANCE – Macron Gives Speech: French President Emmanuel Macron gestures as he delivers a speech on the European Union at the amphitheater of the Sorbonne university in Paris, France, Tuesday. Macron is laying out his vision Tuesday for a more unified Europe, with a joint budget for countries sharing the euro currency and a stronger global voice despite Brexit looming. 

ISRAEL – Mourning: Israeli border police officers mourn over the grave of their colleague Solomon Gavriyah at the military cemetery in Be’er Yaakov, Israel, Tuesday. Gavriyah was killed with another two security guards after a Palestinian attacker opened fire at an entrance to a Jewish settlement of Har Adar.
