In a seemingly unironic Tweet, NYPD’s Transit Unit and the MTA announced this week an upcoming Halloween event: the “Haunted Subway.”

The announcement comes after a chain of events over the past few months that seem scary enough on their own: commuters trapped in an elevator for over an hour at the Clark Street station; pieces of the roof falling at Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center; not one, but two ceiling collapses, followed by a disintegration of the stairs at the Borough Hall station — to name a few.

Gothamist rounded up a list of ideas for slogans for the event, gathered from real testimonials about the New York City subway. “An absolute nightmare!” reads one. “We might as well have been left for dead,” reads another. A third is just a line of dagger emojis.

The festivities are scheduled from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday and Friday evenings.

But missing the Haunted Subway may not be the end of the world. As one Twitter user pointed out in response to the announcement, “I think I already rode this today.”
