~THE NIGHT MAYOR’S LISTENING TOUR KICKS OFF TONIGHT IN BROOKLYN: Have all your questions answered about The City That Never Sleeps at the Office of Nightlife’s five-borough listening tour, which starts tonight in Prospect Heights. The Office of Nightlife, led by Night Mayor Ariel Palitz, acts as a liaison between residents, nightlife professionals and city agencies to promote a safe and vibrant nightlife. “These listening sessions are the perfect opportunity to hear from all New Yorkers, both inside and outside of the industry to ensure that nightlife and New York works for everyone, 24/7,” Palitz said. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~ELLENVILLE SHOOTER NOW WANTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY IN BAY RIDGE: The man cops say shot at several police officers in a hospital in Ellenville, N.Y., Friday was wanted in connection to an armed robbery that occurred in Bay Ridge early Monday morning. NYPD’s Terence Monahanconfirmed on Twitter that at around 9 a.m. on Oct. 1, 42-year-old Joshua Stuart, who was wanted for shooting at several officers in Ellenville Regional Hospital on Sept. 28, was “now also wanted for an armed robbery this morning.” Stuart was apprehended by U.S. Marshals later on Monday. He was found in the Park Slope area. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~PRATT STUDENT CAPTURES ‘EASY INTIMACY OF BROOKLYN’ ON FILM: In a series of photographs, Emlyn Orr, a photographer at Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill, documents the small moments of human connection in the borough. In one photo, two commuters on the bus sit back to back, looking in opposite directions yet only separated by a few inches. A girl cuddles with her cat; an artist pauses from her sketch to look out the window; a little girl dances at the feet of a statue in the park. “What I like about cities, about Brooklyn, is that it’s hard to feel truly alone,” writes Orr. “No matter where you are, it’s expected that the noise of another human being will manage to find you.” (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~ON A HISTORIC DAY, WOMEN GATHER TO CHART THE ‘NEW RULES’:As a partisan duel took place in Washington, a Brooklyn conference looked for solutions to problems in the workplace. “It’s a hell of a day for a women’s conference,” said Rebecca Blumenstein, deputy managing editor of The New York Times, before an audience of 250 influential women in Brooklyn this week. The Times’ New Rules Summit, created “to identify new solutions to the enduring challenges women face in the workplace and beyond,” had been long planned, but happened to take place during the testimony of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the woman accusing him of sexual assault,Christine Blasey Ford(The Bridge via Brooklyn Eagle)

~POLICE RESCUE WOULD-BE JUMPER FROM WILLIAMSBURG BRIDGE: NYPD officers on Sunday morning rescued a man who climbed theWilliamsburg Bridge and threatened to jump off the span. The shirtless man climbed atop a beam around 9:30 a.m. and held on to the bridge’s cables until police officers took him into custody around 10:45 a.m. Auto and subway service across the bridge were stopped during the rescue. “Every day, #NYPD cops perform amazing acts of bravery and heroism, all in the name of keeping NYers safe,” Police Commissioner James O’Neill wrote on Twitter. (New York Post via Brooklyn Eagle)

~CONEY ISLAND ONCE HOSTED BABY INCUBATORS IN A SIDESHOW: Before most hospitals had incubators to treat premature babies, one of the few place “preemies” could receive proper care was at Martin Couney’sincubator sideshow in Coney Island. Couney is the subject of the new book “The Strange Case of Dr. Couney: How a Mysterious European Showman Saved Thousands of American Babies” by Dawn Raffel. Couney, who first displayed incubators at the Berlin Exposition in 1896, settled in the U.S. in 1903 “to run his babies-in-incubators sideshow.” (Atlas Obscura via Brooklyn Eagle)

~DEMOCRATS THROW SUPPORT BEHIND SOUTH BROOKLYN ELECTION: As the Nov. 6 elections approach, New York Democrats have their eyes trained on an unusual swing district: South Brooklyn, where long-serving state senator and lone Republican elected official in the borough Marty Golden is up for re-election. The democratic party is going all out in their support for his challenger, democratic nominee Andrew Gounardes. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to hold a fundraiser for Gounardes this week, and the nominee was flanked in an appearance last weekend by both New York attorney general candidate Letitia James and City Council speaker Corey Johnson, both influential democrats. (NYT via Brooklyn Eagle)
