Hon. Jenny Rivera, a judge on the New York State Court of Appeals who is a regular at Brooklyn’s many legal events, is in Albany this week for the NYS Bar Association’s Partnership Conference where she will be the keynote speaker.

The upstate conference is meant to bring civil legal service providers and private law firms from across the state together. The theme for this year’s conference, which started on Oct. 2 and runs through Oct. 4, is “United for Justice,” and will provide over 30 workshops for attorneys and judges to attend. There are programs on immigration, foreclosure, domestic violence and housing among others.

The event takes place more than 150 miles away from Downtown Brooklyn, but the local legal community will be represented at the conference. Sidney Cherubin, director of legal services at the Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project, is a speaker during a continuing legal education seminar titled, “Creating a Student Loan Practice.” He is joined by Shanna Tallerico, supervising attorney from New York Legal Assistance Group.
