Fall is here, and everyone’s favorite outfit-finisher is a har-vest.

The ninth annual Fall Harvest Festival took place in the Brooklyn Bridge Park on Saturday. The park was filled with parents and their kids excited for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Nancy Webster, executive director of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy and the director of the event, said that the purpose of the festival is to celebrate fall and have a fun-filled day. The conservancy brought in volunteers from non-profits and organizations across Brooklyn to keep the kids entertained with arts and crafts as a brass band serenaded the attendees.

“I hope that people leave here today exhausted because of all the fun they’ve had and filled with a new appreciation of Brooklyn Bridge Park and the conservancy,” she said.

One volunteer taking the “harvest” theme to heart was Stephen Silva, representing a New York-based organization called Local Roots, which brings farm fresh vegetables from areas within a two-hour distance radius to New York City. The organization has 22 markets across the city, where it sells its produce at affordable prices.

“More kids get to have delicious veggies and fruits and get to just feel different about fruit and vegetables,” Silva said.

Other volunteers, including Victoria Calabro from the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and Paul Dranginis from the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy made insect finger puppets with the kids and decorated pumpkins.

Elie Cheng comes to the festival every year with friends and her daughter, Emily. After visiting four booths, Cheng said that she had been impressed. “For example, the face painting was superb.”

But most importantly, Emily was having a good time. “When your kids are happy, we’re happy,” she said.
