Mission Chinese, the popular Sichuan restaurant that started on the West Coast and later opened on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, opened a branch over the weekend at 599 Johnson Ave. in Bushwick.

The restaurant is owned by celebrity chef Danny Bowien, the main subject of the 2017 season of PBS food and travel show “The Mind of a Chef.”

The new outpost, which is surrounded by pink, purple and green neon lights, features Mission Chinese favorites like super-spicy Chongqing chicken wings, kung pao pastrami and thrice-cooked bacon, according to Eater. It also has some unique dishes, such as sourdough naan with burnt buckwheat honey butter and sheep’s milk cheese.

It has been a tough year for Bowien, said Eater. He has faced lawsuits from an investor at Mission Cantina, a now-closed Mexican restaurant he owned, as well as from former staffers, who charged racial discrimination and wage theft. The employee lawsuit has been settled, Eater reported.
