Know Your Candidates: Max Rose
Democrat Max Rose is the first post-9/11 combat veteran to run for a seat in Congress.
Rose, a U.S. Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient, has said that his military experience is one of the reasons he is making his first run for public office.
Rose earned his Purple Heart in 2013 after surviving a blast set off by an improvised explosive device while serving in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. The explosion knocked him unconscious. A general informed him that he survived his serious head wounds partly because Congress had appropriated funding to reinforce military vehicles like the one Rose was riding in at the time of the attack.
