Michele Mirman, the immediate past-president of the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association, was recently ranked among the most powerful women in New York state by the political news organization City & State New York.

Mirman, who is also the president-elect of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, was the highest-ranking member of the Brooklyn legal community at No. 94.

Mirman has established herself as one of the city’s most notable attorneys and an advocate for injured people thanks to a 40-year career. In 1985, she won the then-highest verdict in the U.S. on behalf of a rape victim at $4 million.

Mirman had begun to get into advocating for changes to state legislation while working with the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York when she served as president of the BWBA, but she expects to be much more involved when she heads the statewide NYS Trial Lawyers Association next year.

“It’s all directed at trial work on behalf of the people, malpractice, construction victims, victims of car collisions,” Mirman said when she explained what she anticipates doing as president of the NYS Trial Lawyers Association. “It has a very big focus on helping consumers, helping the everyday man or woman because they cannot speak for themselves after they’ve been brutally injured.”

Mirman was joined by Hon. Janet DiFiore, chief judge of the Court of Appeals and NYS, who was ranked No. 17. Brooklyn’s Letitia James, who was recently elected to be the next New York Attorney General, was No. 2 on the list.
