~GOUNARDES CLAIMS VICTORY IN STATE SENATE RACE, GOLDEN WAITING ON PAPER BALLOTS: “I’m just so proud of him,” cried Diane Gounardes Tuesday night, just minutes before her son, Andrew Gounardes, a Democrat, would claim victory in his race to win the coveted — and long-Republican — 22nd District state Senate seat. According to sources close to the election, there are approximately 1,500 absentee ballots still to be counted, and an unconfirmed number of provisional votes left over from some of Tuesday’s notably backed-up polling sites. There will also be a paper count on Wednesday, Nov. 14, followed by a machine audit on Friday, Nov. 16. (via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~ADAMS CALLS FOR VOTING REFORM, MORE SOPHISTICATED TECH:Standing in front of the Brooklyn Board of elections on Wednesday morning, Borough President Eric Adams spoke out against the issues with voting in New York that made Tuesday’s midterms chaotic for polling stations across New York. Adams reported that at least 49 polling locations faced serious problems. Now, he is putting forward a 5-point plan to better the voting process in the city, after Tuesday’s long lines and jammed scanners made voting difficult for hundreds of Brooklynites. (via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~TAKE A STROLL TO QUEENS FROM DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, PART THREE: If you want to walk to Queens from Downtown Brooklyn, Willoughby’s a fine way to go. For part of your stroll, you’ll notice this photogenic thoroughfare is called Willoughby Street — which begins as a pedestrian plaza alongside the 409 Fulton St. Shake Shack. On the far side of Fort Greene Park, Willoughby Street becomes Willoughby Avenue. Beautiful new apartment towers and landmarked houses line Willoughby Street/Avenue. ~DRIVER CHARGED IN PARK SLOPE DEATH OF ACTRESS’ TODDLER KILLS HERSELF: Authorities say a woman who lost control of her car and fatally struck the child of a Tony Award-winning Broadway actress and another toddler in a Brooklyn crosswalk has died of an apparent suicide. Dorothy Bruns, 44, was found dead in her Staten Island home Tuesday. Authorities say pills and a note were found nearby. Bruns faced 15 years in jail after being charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment and assault following the accident in March. (AP via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~FOUR BUSHWICK-RIDGEWOOD EATERIES MAKE MICHELIN’S ‘BIB GOURMAND’ LIST: Michelin, the well-known international dining guide, has released its 2018 “Bib Gourmand” list, featuring restaurants that serve high-quality food with prices that make it possible to order two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less. Four of these restaurants are located inBushwick or Ridgewood. They are Houdini Kitchen Laboratory, Roberta’s, Falansai and Bunker. (Bushwick Daily via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~DOWNTOWN’S BROOKLYN POINT SKYSCRAPER REACHES HALFWAY POINT IN CLIMB UPWARD: Construction on Brooklyn Point, aka 138 Willoughby St., has reached the halfway point in the climb toward its full 720-foot height. The residential skyscraper, developed by Extell, will have 458 units. The building will rise from a four-story podium bordered by Flatbush Avenue, Willoughby Street and Albee Square. Brooklyn Point’s amenities will include concierge service, a wine cellar, a screening room, a children’s playroom, a putting green, barbecue grills, a Pilates and cycling studio, a yoga studio, a private dining room and a 65-foot-long rooftop pool. (YIMBY via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~ACCUSED DRUG LORD EL CHAPO TO TRAVEL TWICE WEEKLY ACROSS BROOKLYN BRIDGE: Accused drug lord El Chapo will be moved twice every week during his drug trafficking trial in Brooklyn — on Mondays from the Metropolitan Correctional Center to Brooklyn’s federal court and on Fridays back to the MCC. Police officials are concerned that he could be assassinated by representatives of other gangs. They also fear that he might try to abscond, since he has escaped twice from Mexican prisons. El Chapo will travel with a police escort along the Brooklyn Bridge, which will be briefly closed to pedestrians and vehicles during that time. (New York Post via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~SUSPECTS IN BROOKLYN HEIGHTS SWASTIKA SPREE ARRESTED: NYPD announced on Monday that officers have arrested two young men who allegedly drew swastikas on garage doors on Garden Place in Brooklyn Heights last week. The suspects were identified as Jarrick Wiltshire, 18, andDaul Moultrie, 17. The two have each been charged with three counts of aggravated harassment for the alleged hate crime. (CBSNewYork via Brooklyn Eagle)
