Car-sharing services such as Zipcar and Car2Go are easily found in Northern Brooklyn, Downtown Brooklyn and nearby areas such as Carroll Gardens and Park Slope, according to Treehugger.

However, they are more scarce in some other Brooklyn locations.

Car-Sharing services can best be described as car-rental companies in which, in exchange for paying a monthly fee, users can rent cars for short periods of time. In contrast to “regular” car-rental companies, in which the user has to visit one of the company’s dedicated locations to rent a car, car-sharing services’ vehicles are parked on the street, in parking lots and many other places.

“There is a high density of car-share spots in areas like Cobble Hill and Park Slope. Downtown Brooklyn and Boerum Hill are among the neighborhoods with the most cars per resident. They have 12 and 11 car-share locations, respectively,” Grace Klein, urban planner for localize.city, told Treehugger. “And while Greenpoint doesn’t have too many car-share locations, Williamsburg has the most of any neighborhood in the city, with 45 locations for car-share vehicles.”

Still, there are few cars east of Bushwick Avenue in Williamsburg, Klein said.

In addition, said Treehugger, car-sharing services haven’t penetrated into East New York, Canarsie, Mill Basin, Marine Park and much of East Flatbush and Sheepshead Bay.
