Permits have been filed for a six-story mixed-use building at 4024 12th Ave. in Borough Park that would rise on the site currently occupied by Congregation Bethel, the neighborhood’s oldest synagogue, according to New York Yimby.

The site is five blocks from the Fort Hamilton Parkway subway station on the D train and seven blocks from Green-Wood Cemetery. Several community groups in the heavily Orthodox Jewish neighborhood have voiced opposition, New York Yimby reported. Some 4,640 square feet within the planned 80-foot-tall structure would be dedicated to a new synagogue on the ground floor and below, and 15,870 square feet would be dedicated to residential use.
