~COMMUNITY BOARD KNOCKS DOWN PLAN FOR SUPERTALL TOWER AT 80 FLATBUSH: CB 2 overwhelmingly rejected a proposed supertall skyscraper that opponents call “a Chrysler Building” on the edge of Downtown BrooklynOn Wednesday night, the board voted 32-1 to disapprove the project, commonly known as 80 Flatbush. The full board’s vote was a first step in a land-use review process that’s required because Alloy Development would need a zoning change before it could build the 74- and 38-story residential, office and retail towers. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~FILM CREWS FLOOD BROOKLYN HEIGHTS ONCE AGAIN, AND LOCAL MERCHANTS SAY BUSINESS IS HURTING: It’s not your imagination — film crews and their paraphernalia are filling the narrow streets of Brooklyn Heights once again. Since the beginning of 2018, there have been 157 daily shooting permits issued for ZIP code 11201, according to the city — up from the previous heavy production period in 2015, when there were 130 permits issued. The filming has divided the neighborhood, with some locals complaining of limited parking and congestion, while others profited from renting their homes as sets. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~BROOKLYN HOME SALE PRICES UP 50 PERCENT OVER LAST DECADE: Housing has long been a solid investment — but in Brooklyn over the last decade, it was a gold mine. The real estate website PropertyShark compiled a list of every home bought in Brooklyn in 2008 that was sold in 2017 — 230 homes in all. The results? The houses’ original median sale price of $440,000 had swelled to $647,000. Following a long-term trend, neighborhoods closest to Manhattan, such as Brooklyn HeightsDUMBOBoerum Hill and Park Slope, saw the steepest increases, the data show. (BKLYNER via Brooklyn Eagle)

~DOWNTOWN RAMEN EATERY TO CLOSE AFTER 5-PLUS YEARS: After almost six years at 25 Bond St. in Downtown Brooklyn, Ganso Ramen is closing. Announcing its upcoming demise at the end of this month, the restaurant’s Facebook page said, “Come slurp noodles with us this last month! We’d like to thank our friends who have supported us for over five years.” Owner Harris Salat said that the restaurant “will be flipped into a new concept entirely later this summer” at the same space. Ganso Ramen’s signature dish was a soy-and-chicken-based broth ramen with Tokyo-style noodles, pork belly and bitter greens. (via Eater)

~ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPER NABBED IN BENSONHURSTBensonhurstcops say they’ve caught the man who allegedly tried to kidnap a 3-year-old boy on a busy neighborhood street on MondayOmar Dominguez, 26, wastaken into custody late Wednesday night by police from the 62nd Precinct. Dominguez, who lives at 115 Avenue S, was charged with kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, petit larceny and endangering a child. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~SPIKE LEE’S PARTY HONORING PRINCE SET FOR JUNE 9: Spike Leehas officially announced on Twitter that “Purple People Party 3,” his third annual celebration of pop star Prince’s life and legacy, will take place on June 9 at Restoration Plaza in Bedford-Stuyvesant from noon to 7 p.m. Brooklyn-raised filmmaker Lee worked with Prince twice on a music video and on Lee’s film “Girl 6” in 1996, which featured a soundtrack of Prince songs. Lee has been throwing annual “Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson” parties in Bed-Stuy since Jackson died, and after Prince died in 2016, he began honoring him in the same way. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~DO YOU LIVE ON THE GREENEST BLOCK IN BROOKLYN?: If you think you live on the prettiest block in Brooklyn, now’s your chance to let the world know — and win an award in the process. Yes, it’s time for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s 24th annual “Greenest Block in Brooklyn” contest. “The ‘Greenest Block in Brooklyn’ not only encourages us to use our hands, but our hearts and souls as well,” said Borough President Eric Adams. “When we ‘green’ it, we’re not just cultivating beautiful gardens; we’re creating One Brooklyn that is a healthier and happier place to raise healthy children and families.” (via Brooklyn Eagle)
