Leaving SoHo for Sunset, production company Buck has joined a growing roster of companies moving to Industry City.

An announcement was made on Tuesday, July 24 that Buck — which specializes in animation and design for TV shows, movies and ads — will move into 30,000 square feet at the massive waterfront complex. Its current space in SoHo is 11,000 square feet.

Over 50 employees from the Manhattan office will move to the Sunset Park space this fall. Buck will be located on the top two floors of Building 5 and surrounded by a vibrant ecosystem of production industry companies.

The larger office will include a suite of creatives and studio to create stop motion sets by hand. Additional hiring is expected within the next year.

“We wanted to be in Brooklyn, in a place that inspires our employees and excites our clients – everyone from Google to Instagram, Apple to Nike,” said Orion Tait, executive creative director and principal at Buck. “Industry City delivers on that front, while also making us accessible to our employee base and giving us the flexibility to continue to grow.”

The company is getting a warm welcome.

“We’re beyond excited to welcome Buck to the Industry City production hub,” said Director of Leasing at Industry City Kathe Chase. “Buck’s creative culture – made up of an international collective of directors, producers, digital artists, graphic designers, illustrators and animators – is perfectly in sync with the creative class of tenants at Industry City. We are delighted that Buck, with locations in Los Angeles and Sydney, and a prolific client list that includes Google, Instagram, Nike and Apple, has decided to move its Manhattan location to what so many are now referring to as the innovative heart of Brooklyn.”

The complex is an ideal environment for such a company, said Ken Fishel, of Legacy Real Estate, which represented Buck in the deal.

“We particularly felt Industry City was an ideal option for Buck to create a showcase space for its New York operations due to the robust creative community, stunning waterfront views and campus-style amenities,” he noted, stressing that the “creative and design oriented companies” the company represents “are now considering Brooklyn when evaluating their relocation options,” thanks to “the new amenity-rich developments and high-standard creative buildouts, and lower price points.”

Buck joins an ever-growing list of production companies at the complex such as AbelCine, Aerobo, FilmRise, Conde Nast, 30 Ninjas, B Live and LiteGear.

Rents at Industry City range from $15 to $40 per square foot.
