After 6 years of service, Pok Pok Ny is closing up shop

Pok Pok Ny, the Thai restaurant in the Columbia Street Waterfront District, will close next month after six years of operation.
Andy Ricker, the chef and owner, took the upcoming end of the restaurant’s lease as an opportunity to close up shop. In a statement, he wrote: “Our revenue is down year-over-year to the point where we will stop being profitable this fall.” He cited other reasons for closing, too, such as a hope to pare down his work life (Ricker has six restaurants operating in Portland, Oregon, and another on the way in Las Vegas) and the Columbia Street area’s failure to take off as a cultural hub.
In the six years since Pok Pok Ny opened, the Thai food scene in New York has taken off, reports The New York Times. The influx of Thai restaurants in busier neighborhoods, like Uncle Boons off the Bowery and Ugly Baby in Carroll Gardens, had overshadowed Ricker’s once highly-ranked eatery, which once held the #14 spot on Grub Street’s 101 Best (New) Cheap Eats List.
