A new study from NYU has brought forward a tempting possibility: Brooklyn’s own High Line.

The “PX Forward” study, which was initiated by Borough President Eric Adams and conducted by four urban planning graduate students at NYU, includes proposals for capitalizing on the space not only around the Prospect Expressway — but above it, too.

The report was based on a study of the mostly residential area along the 2.3-mile expressway, which comprises all of Windsor Terrace, as well as parts of Kensington, Greenwood Heights, South Slope and Sunset Park.

According to Brownstoner, a few of the recommendations are standard upgrades like widened bike lanes, more public art and connecting already-existing green spaces.

But the radical vision of “PX Forward” is the creation of a High-Line style park called “Prospect Path” lifted above the expressway, with underutilized highway shoulders filled with real estate development. A particularly drastic portion of the report suggests the development of housing or commercial property on top of the deck that would run over the highway, Brownstoner reported.

The Prospect Expressway was constructed between 1953 and 1962 under the supervision of power broker Robert Moses.
