Seltzer company’s Williamsburg bike giveaway seen as chaotic
An attempt by Brooklyn beverage bottler Spiked Seltzer to hand out free bicycles to Brooklyn residents in advance of the upcoming L-Train shutdown was very disorganized, according to the Brooklyn Paper.
The giveaway took place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday near the company’s Wythe Avenue billboard. However, one Brooklyn resident, Jenifer Rosenberg, told the Brooklyn Paper that she was told she wouldn’t receive a bike, although others who had friends wait in line for them or left bags on the sidewalk to hold their places in line did.
“People brought friends and cut the entire line,” Rosenberg said. Also, she added, the people who were supposed to be overseeing the process didn’t show up until about an hour and a half before the handouts began. Still, those who did get the new two-wheelers were grateful. “Now I have this means of transportation that’s safe, quick, and reliable, unlike what the MTA was providing me,” Carl Guthwin told News 12.
