~COME SEE CANARSIE CEMETERY, WHERE CIVIL WAR VETERANS ARE BURIED: Brave Brooklynites who fought in the Civil War rest in eternal peace beneath an obelisk and a high-flying American flag. Where? In Canarsie Cemetery. Have you ever been there? It’s an excellent place to honor the patriots of yesteryear — and see some beautiful tombstones, too. It’s right in the middle of Canarsie, the neighborhood where the L train makes its final stop. You will find the graveyard by strolling down Remsen Avenue towards Jamaica Bay. ~WALL COLLAPSES AT SUNSET PARK CONSTRUCTION SITE, POTENTIALLY TRAPPING ONE: A wall collapsed at a construction site inSunset Park, potentially leaving one person trapped. The collapse occurred on Wednesday around 1:33 p.m. at 714 39th Street. FDNY members were on the scene. “Units are currently shoring up and searching the rubble,” the department tweeted. “We’re not sure if there’s a person trapped. That’s why we are searching and shoring up the wall,” a FDNY spokesperson said. (via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~SALAZAR: NETANYAHU SPOKESMAN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED ME: A candidate for New York’s state senate said Tuesday she was sexually assaulted five years ago by a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an accusation the man denies. Julia Salazar, 27, whose insurgent campaign has attracted wide attention, said on Twitter that she was speaking out about David Keyes because she was about to be “outed” as a sexual assault survivor. (AP via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~FOUR BROOKLYN WOMEN DESIGN LEBRON JAMES’S NEWEST SHOE: LeBron James’s first women’s basketball shoe sold out within five minutes of its release. The HFR x LeBron 16, the newest shoe in the legendary athlete’s arsenal, made its first appearance on Sept. 4 and was officially released on Sept. 7, selling out almost instantaneously. But the victory wasn’t LeBron’s alone. The shoe was co-designed by four Brooklyn women: Brandice Daniel,Kimberly Goldson, Undra Duncan and Fe Noel. ~LEGAL NEWS SITE TOUTS BROOKLYN DA’S OFFICE ‘COOLER’ THAN MANHATTAN’S: The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office is much “cooler”than its Manhattan counterpart based on its progressive policies, legal news site Above the Law touts. The article, written by criminal defense attorney Toni Messina, cites Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez’s push last week to erase misdemeanor marijuana convictions and clear marijuana warrants and summons. She goes further to consider Brooklyn a “less punishment-centered bureau” compared to Manhattan. (Above the Law via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~BROOKLYN CENTER FOR THE ARTS CLOSES SUDDENLY, FIRES STAFF: In a shocking and unanticipated move, Brooklyn Center for Performing Arts at Brooklyn College shut down last week, leaving all of its full-time employees without jobs. Although the college cited budgetary reasons and construction delays in its decision, the closure came as a complete surprise to the staff. The center started operating under the umbrella of Brooklyn College in July — a transition that didn’t go all too smoothly, according to a source who said, “In 64 years, we made it through the Vietnam war, the Great Recession, but couldn’t survive 64 days after becoming a part of the college.” (Bklyner via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~MISS AMERICA 2019 THANKS BROOKLYN FOR HER WIN: Nia Imani Franklin, the Clinton Hill resident who was crowned Miss America on Sunday, says living in Brooklyn gave her the edge she needed to win the competition. “Living here has given me even more of a grit and sense of self,” Franklin said. “I’m really excited about that, and I think that’s what’s going to help me have a wonderful year as Miss America.” Franklin, previously crowned Miss New York, is the first Miss America to have won the pageant since it eliminated its swimsuit competition, a move spearheaded by former Miss America Gretchen Carlson. (ABC via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~IN DEEP MAGENTA, DANCERS PERFORM SILENT PROTEST OF HATE CRIMES: Five dancers coated from head-to-toe in deep magenta body paint will perform at the Brooklyn Historical Society tomorrow. The performance is a recreation of multiple public performances by the group earlier this month, where they danced silently at the sites of racist and homophobic attacks throughout the city. One dancer chose a Brooklyn-bound Q train for her stage, where a young lesbian woman was beaten unconscious last year. Another performed at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Classon Avenue, where a noose was found last September. (Brooklyn Daily via Brooklyn Eagle)

EAGLE SPORTS: Josh Ho-Sang entered the Islanders’ organization as a brash, dynamic and somewhat tempestuous prospect when he was selected with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft. Four years later, the 22-year-old Toronto native is just trying to prove he can play at the NHL level for a full season, a quest that begins in earnest Thursday when the Brooklyn-based franchise officially opens training camp to all its players. “I’m happy with the opportunity to get a fresh start,” Ho-Sang said. (via Brooklyn Eagle)
