City Council passes bills to help L-Train commuters
The City Council passed two bills that are designed to help commuters who will be displaced by the 15-month L-train shutdown beginning in April. The first creates the position of “ombudsperson” at the city’s Department of Transportation to monitor progress on the L train’s East River tunnel work as well as to investigate complaints related to the work, according to amNewYork.
“Understandably, New Yorkers on both sides of the East River are getting more and more anxious about what some people are calling the ‘L-pocalypse,’” said City Council Speaker Corey Johnson.
The person will be appointed by city Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg. The second bill mandates that DOT create information centers in Brooklyn and Manhattan during the shutdown, amNewYork reported. During the shutdown, the L will continue to operate from Bedford Avenue to Canarsie but will not go to Manhattan.
