THE LEDE: Happy Tuesday! Squibb Bridge will be closed indefinitely, two men plead guilty to robbing a Brooklyn Heights jewelry store, and we have photos from the Atlantic Antic. Plus, a medical marijuana dispensary grows in Brooklyn, a high-tech water fountain goes to waste, and sales begin for a 57-story Downtown Brooklyn building. Finally, a Brooklyn grandmother gets deported, a Williamsburg design firm helps out David Beckham, and we recommend the best places to get Asian desserts in the city.

IMPRINT: President Trump attacks Angela Merkel on a recent cover of Der Spiegel.

~SQUIBB BRIDGE TO BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK BUSTED INDEFINITELY: The formerly bouncy Squibb Bridge connecting Brooklyn Heights to Brooklyn Bridge Park will be closed indefinitely. The bridge was barricaded shut in July after an inspection revealed a piece of wood was in “poor condition.” In a statement, the park said that testing had identified “additional members of wood with higher than expected moisture levels, which have compromised the condition and quality of the wood. … Unfortunately, the bridge will need to remain closed during design development, which will determine the associated timeline for repairs.” (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~TWO PLEAD GUILTY TO VIOLENT ARMED ROBBERY OF COURT STREET JEWELRY STORE: Two of the four men involved pleaded guilty in federal court on Friday to the violent armed robbery of a jewelry store located at 60 Court St. in Brooklyn HeightsDarryl Odom and Lashawn Williams, both from the Bronx, pleaded guilty to Hobbs Act Robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence for the May 25, 2017 gunpoint robbery. Odom also pleaded guilty to a separate robbery that took place in Boerum Hill on Feb. 10, 2017. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~POSTCARDS FROM ATLANTIC ANTIC, BROOKLYN’S GRAND STREET FAIR: While this year’s edition of Atlantic Antic took place on Sunday under a cool mist — compared with last year’s record 91-degree sunshine — nothing could dampen the exuberant festival’s spirit. Brooklyn’s biggest street fair, marking its 44th year, buzzed with the beat of a music festival, thanks to this year’s theme, “The Pulse of Brooklyn.” Hundreds of vendors lined the 1.1-mile instant emporium, while thousands of fair-goers danced, sampled helpings of cosmopolitan cuisine, and even took advantage of free health check-ups. Here’s a gallery of photos from this year’s event. (The Bridge via Brooklyn Eagle)

~BROOKLYN TO GET ITS FIRST MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARY: By the end of the year, Brooklynites can expect access to legal weed. Cannabis company Citiva Medical announced last week that it will open Brooklyn’s first medical marijuana dispensary within the next two to three months, across the street from Barclays Center. Citiva Medical, which is one of 10 medical cannabis providers licensed to operate in the state, has plans to engage with the local community, sharing information about the safety and science behind medical marijuana even before the dispensary opens. (High Times via Brooklyn Eagle)

~HIGH-TECH WATER FOUNTAIN CAN’T BE USED AT BROOKLYN SCHOOL DUE TO LEAD PROBLEMS: City officials last week brought fresh water and a repair plan for a high-tech water fountain at a Brooklyn high school that cost $5,100. The bubbler has sat unused since June because of dangerous lead levels. Last school year, students at the International High School in Prospect Heights raised money for the new fountain by selling popcorn, but tests found lead contamination in the water. (New York Post via Brooklyn Eagle)

~SALES BEGIN FOR 11 HOYT STREET HIGH-RISE CONDO DEVELOPMENT: Sales began for 11 Hoyt Street, a 57-story luxury condo development in Downtown Brooklyn that is being developed by Tishman Speyer. When finished in 2020, the building will occupy an entire square block bound by Hoyt Street, Elm Place, Livingston Street and Fulton Street. The tower is designed to include 480 units, which will range in price from the $600,000s for studios to $3.4 million for a four-bedroom apartment. Each unit will have 10-foot-high ceilings and 8-foot-tall windows. (YIMBY via Brooklyn Eagle)

~33-YEAR BROOKLYN RESIDENT AND GRANDMOTHER DEPORTED, FAMILY GIVEN NO NOTICE: Last week, ICE deported Brooklyn resident of 33-years Gloria Hernandez Suarez — a mother and grandmother who arrived in the U.S. from Mexico in 1985 — without giving any notice to her family. Prior to her deportation, Suarez, 61, spent two months in a detention center in New Jersey after being arrested in July. Nancy Aquino, one of Suarez’s four children, said, “My mother is not a criminal. … The only thing she wanted was to be in this country with her family — with her kids, her grandchildren and her husband.” (Gothamist via Brooklyn Eagle)
