To enhance the quality of life for all our seniors, the Aging in New York Fund (ANYF) has created a unique fundraising experience on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Prospect Park.

Celebrating Our Seniors – A Walk Through Time is a citywide fundraiser that tells the story of New York through the eyes of its longest lived citizens – our seniors. Coinciding with Grandparents’ Day, the inaugural .6 mile walk aims to honor the beauty of intergenerational relationships. Looking to the past to honor the present, the highlight of the day will send participants on a time traveling interactive exhibition.

A specially designed walk will feature a pre-set path to commemorate the New York experience one decade at a time, starting with the 1940s. People of all ages—from children to great grandparents, and everyone in between—will enjoy a day of oral histories, crafts, music and a labyrinth of activities that will spark the sharing of memories.

Participants can walk individually or in teams and be sponsored through monetary donations. Donations sent specifically to ANYF are also welcomed. Money raised supports ANYF’s efforts to create innovative programming addressing the evolving needs of today’s seniors. In the past, ANYF has developed “It’s My Money!,” a computer-based financial literacy game that teaches seniors about identity theft and scams; “Bridging the Gap,” a curriculum for intergenerational community service; and the impending Adult Day Scholarship Cooperative that will help essential service providers reopen their doors to more families who can only afford adult day services on a sliding-scale basis.

In addition, 25% of funds raised by each non-profit organization that participates in the Walk will go back to the non-profit to support its own important work in our City.
