Police say a 31-year-old suspect armed with a handgun has been shot and wounded by a police officer in Brooklyn.

Police say they got a tip that a man who was illegally residing at a residence on Glenmore Avenue in East New York was in possession of a gun.

When officers surrounded the home at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the armed man tried to exit the back door and was confronted by a police officer who ordered him to drop his weapon.
