Arrested in Attica: Brooklyn Man Busted for Trying to Smuggle Heroin Into Prison

ATTICA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have charged a Brooklyn man with trying to smuggle heroin into an upstate prison.

State police say 27-year-old Khalid Amir Thurmond of Brooklyn was arrested at Attica Correctional Facility in western New York.

Troopers say Thurmond had 3.2 grams of heroin hidden on this body when he attempted to visit an inmate at the maximum-security prison on Saturday.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband.

Thurmond was arraigned in Town of Attica Court and sent to Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $8,000 bail.

He’s due back in court Feb. 23.

It couldn’t be determined if he had a lawyer.
