The corner of Atlantic Avenue and Boerum Place is a pretty bleak place. Three projects could really spiff the place up.
* 66 Boerum Place: The foundation is being constructed at this development. Midtown Equities is in charge of the project, with Alex Adjmi as a partner.
The Buildings Department has approved foundations and structural framing work for a three-story commercial building at 66 Boerum Place – which presumably will be the base of the 160,000-square-foot mixed-use development Midtown Equities plans for the site. It will include a combination of new retail, office and residential space, the firm's website says.
A Midtown Equities staffer sent over a rendering – it looks like the final project will be nine stories tall, with lots of glass on the bottom three floors.
* 252 Atlantic Ave.: Construction is at a standstill on Atlantic Galleria, which is on another corner of Atlantic Avenue and Boerum Place.
Pier 1 and Retro Fitness have signed up as tenants of the planned retail building at 252 Atlantic Ave., which is supposed to be 48,750 square feet in size, and two stories tall with a basement.
In September, Adir Cohen, the director of leasing and acquisitions at developer Renaissance Realty Group, said project work had stopped because steel beams had to be brought from Canada, and they'd arrive in three weeks.
It's been three months. It's still as silent as a tomb on the site. What's up?
“I'm not liberty to discuss this right now,” said Cohen, who promised to get back to us. We didn't hear from him by deadline.
* 262 Atlantic Ave.: A third project that will liven up the corner of Boerum Place and Atlantic Avenue is waiting for somebody to hit the start button. The 262 Atlantic Ave. site – an empty lot with vehicles parked on it – is right next to 252 Atlantic Ave.
Laundry Capital, a firm that made it big in the self-service laundry business, plans a two-story retail building at 262 Atlantic Ave. The Buildings Department gave its okay last summer.
