More than three dozen firefighters were needed to extinguish a fire in an auto body shop on the morning of Jan. 19, officials said.
No one was injured in the one-alarm blaze, at 75th Street Auto Body Shop at 316 75th St., but the blaze was serious enough to warrant an “all hands” call, designating it as the most serious type of one-alarm fire.
The fire began in the auto body shop and spread to the second floor, where a Dolphin Fitness Center is located, officials said. “It started in the mechanic shop. There was some extension to the second floor,” said a spokesman for the Fire Department.
The Fire Department received the first 911 call about the fire at 9:57 a.m., according to the spokesman. The fire proved to be difficult to extinguish, and the “all hands” call was put out at 10:06 a.m., bringing additional fire units to the scene.
The fire was brought under control at 10:41 a.m., the spokesman said.
The cause of the blaze was not determined.
