Bed-Stuy gallery celebrates third opening and ‘Curates for a Cure’
The Bishop on Bedford, a Bed-Stuy gallery opened by artists and Pratt graduate school classmates Jackie Cantwell and Molly Myer this past March, has already established itself as an innovative arts space. Though only two months old, The Bishop has already presented two impressive exhibitions. It opened with a group project called “Six Degrees of Separation” and has recently closed its second exhibition, “FLEET,” which allowed various artists to take over a large portion of the gallery space to present their projects.
Wasting no time, The Bishop is already celebrating the opening of its third exhibition, titled “Six Sides of the Cube,” on Saturday, May 18. The project, which will feature six artists, explores the fundamental shape of the cube. Just a week later, on May 23, Cantwell and Myer will present “Curating for a Cure” – an art auction that will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services. Cantwell’s D.C. organization Curating for a Cause has generously supported LLS in the past, and seeks to continue the relationship by hosting an auction at The Bishop. “Curating for a Cure,” which will be curated by Cantwell and Myer, is the organization’s first New York charity art auction.
