Is Bensonhurst becoming a foodie’s paradise? Well, not quite. But the neighborhood that used to be known mainly for its pizzerias has come a long way in recent years, according to civic leaders. The community boasts a wide variety of restaurants offering international cuisine.
And now comes news that 18th Avenue, the main shopping strip of Bensonhurst, is about to get a trendy shop.
Red Mango, the nationwide chain of frozen yogurt shops, is opening a store on 18th Avenue, the blog bensonhurstbean.com reported. The new Red Mango will be located in the spot at 6604 18th Ave. where the Trunzo Meat Market used to be, the blog reported.
Red Mango founder Dan Kim opened his first frozen yogurt shop in 2007. Today, there are over 190 Red Mango locations nationwide, according to the company’s website.
The Red Mango shops are noted for their nonfat frozen yogurt containing calcium, protein, and live active cultures that “are good for your body,” according to the website. Red Mango http://www.redmangousa.com/menu/ boasts that its frozen yogurt is all-natural, nonfat or low fat, and certified gluten-free.
The flavors include milk chocolate, pomegranate, Madagascar vanilla, cinnamon apple pie, spiced brown sugar, and pumpkin spice. The toppings offered are fresh fruit, granola, and nuts, cheesecake bits, cereal bits, and yogurt chips.
The shops also sell smoothies, lemonade, frozen coffee chillers, and artisan hot chocolate.
No word yet on when the new place will open.
