Bay Ridge — Community Board 10 has voted to recommend that the New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) approve an application for a liquor license filed by the owner of Nouveau, a new restaurant set to open at 8214 Third Ave. The vote took place at the board’s Jan. 23 meeting.
The owner, the former manager of Kitti Chi Restaurant in Soho, plans to have seating for 58 diners at tables and16 patrons at the bar.
The eatery is located at the former site of Level Lounge. The location has a history as a trouble site, according to board members, who said rowdy, noisy patrons often got into fights that spilled onto the sidewalk outside the bar.
The board’s Police and Public Safety Committee, chaired by George Fontas, recommend that the owner of Nouveau be held to a set of stipulations in order to be granted the liquor license.
“Given the history of this site, the committee asked a number of questions (of the owner) seeking to confirm that this location will operate as a restaurant as presented (in the application),” Fontas said.
The stipulations, which the owner agreed to, include: no DJ or live music; no application for a cabaret license; no use of the alley behind the building; and closing the French doors at the entrance at 10 p.m. each night.
Under SLA rules, local community boards are asked to make recommendations on whether a business owner should be granted a liquor license.
