It’s sort of like Fresh Direct – only it involves booze.
The company Booze Carriage – tagline “Your order to your door, for the same price as the store!” -- will soon take your booze order over the Internet and deliver it to your door with no delivery fee or markup.
Not only that -- they promise delivery within an hour.
As first reported on the blog Brokelyn.com, Boozecarriage.com has already been delivering in Manhattan, but they’ve expanded their operations to select Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Fort Green and Clinton Hill (11205, 11217, 11215 and 11238 Zip codes). Expansion to Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and Greenpoint is planned for November 1.
The company will deliver beer and wine only to Williamsburg (11211 and 11249 Zip codes). Minimum order is $20.
Doug Zimmerman, manager of Montague Wine and Spirits (which offers delivery in Brooklyn Heights), told the Brooklyn Eagle on Friday that he’s heard of Booze Carriage, but thinks customers should “shop local.”
“Customers get more hands-on help from someone who’s gotten to know your taste,” he said. “We do that every day. People look for wine for a particular meal or event and we tell them what wine is appropriate. Online, there’s no back and forth. There are a lot more risks involved, and it’s less likely you’ll get what you want.”
A Booze Carriage employee, however, said the company works with local merchants to get the hooch delivered quickly. While beer is delivered 24/7, state laws govern liquor deliveries. Liquor stores must close by midnight on weekdays and 9 p.m. on Sundays, so deliveries will fall within that range.
